Q: My Lampe Berger will not light.

Answer:

Is there enough fragrance in your Lampe Berger? It should be at a minimum of 1/3 full to ensure the wick can absorb enough fragrance.
How old is the burner? It may need replacing. Depending on how often you use the Lampe Berger – the burner should be replaced approximately every 6-12 months, working on an average of 20mins to 50mins use per day.
Have you sometimes left the flame lit for more than the recommended 2/3 minutes? This can damage the catalytic properties of the burner. You will need to replace the burners.

Q: My Lampe Berger goes out soon after lighting.

Answer:

Is there enough fuel in the Lampe Berger? – See above answer for details.
Did you leave the flame lit for 2-3 minutes? A new wick takes longer to get working – ensure it is left for 3 minutes before blowing out the flame.
How much fuel is in the Lampe Berger? We recommend that you do not fill the Lampe Berger more than half full. Dependant on the design of the lamp – shorter ones cannot be filled more than half – taller / larger lamps can be filled to 2/3 full. If you have overfilled the lamp then the burner may be ‘flooded’ – take out the wick and leave on newspaper to evaporate overnight. Pour the excess fuel back into the fragrance bottle. Replace the wick/burner the following day – leave for at least 20 minutes with the snuffer cap in place to allow the wick to soak up the fuel and then light.
Is the wick/burner dirty? There can be a build-up of fragrance residue – which can be ‘cleaned off’. To do this you need to use the Neutral fragrance. Empty out the any existing fragrance in the lamp – back into your fragrance bottle. Put a small amount of Neutral into your lamp – no more than 1/3 full is required. Replace the burner and leave for 20 minutes – with the snuffer cap in place. Light the lamp and after blowing out the flame – leave for approx a half hour. You may continue using the Neutral or – pour the remaining fuel back into it’s original container. Continue with your favourite fragrance as usual.

Q: My Lampe Berger smokes when I blow out the flame.

Answer:

How long did you leave the flame burning for? Relight and leave for a little longer – no more than 3 minutes or so.
How old is the wick? – You may need to replace if you have used it regularly for 12 months.
Has the wick been left exposed without the snuffer cap in place? There can be smoke from a build up of dust on the burner – this should burn off in a few minutes.
Is the wick/burner dirty? – See answer in above section

Q: Which size of wick/burner do I need?

Answer:

There are now 2 lengths of wick on our wick/burners. The long wick is the original wick – to be used in the majority of lamps. The new short wick is designed for use in small lamps for example Bingo, Penta, Polygon, & Galet – if in doubt just email us and we will be able to advise further.

Q: What type of Lampe Berger Fragrance would you suggest I purchase?

Answer:

Obviously this depends on personal preference – please request sample fragrance tester strips with your order to assist you in this.
Where fragrances are supplied with lamps – it is not possible to select the fragrance as we do not have any control of what is supplied by Lampe Berger.

If the room is small and/or you find fragrances quite heady – you may want to try reducing the potency of the fragrance using the Neutral fragrance – adding a little at a time then trying it out – until you are happy with the strength of fragrance in your room.

These are just a few examples – please contact us giving us your particular circumstances and we can discuss and advise you accordingly.
It is recommended that all Lampe Berger owners should have a bottle of Neutral as a maintenance item to give a longer life to the wick/burner.

Q: What sizes do Lampe Berger Fragrance come in – and what burning time will I get from each bottle?

Answer:

Lampe Berger home fragrances are available in 3 sizes – 180ml, 500ml & 1 Litre.

Not all fragrances are available in all 3 sizes. All are available in 500ml. The most popular fragrances (according to Lampe Berger’s statistics) are sold in 1 Litre bottles. New and longer standing fragrances, along with Neutral are available in 180ml.

New fragrances are developed and released seasonally – less popular fragrances (again – according to Lampe Berger’s statistics) are discontinued periodically. We at Style of Life have no control of this or what sizes the fragrances are available in. Most importantly – we always stock the complete range available at the time from France. We always try to take in large stock quantities of fragrances that Lampe Berger are to discontinue when we see that they are popular with OUR customers. If you wish to purchase bulk quantities of fragrances ‘to be discontinued’ please contact us for details and special prices

  • 180ml – approx 7 hours of burning for 20 hours of fragrance.
  • 500ml – approx 20 hours of burning for 80 hours of fragrance.
  • 1 Litre – approx 40 hours of burning for 160 hours of fragrance.

The above burning times are supplied by Lampe Berger, France.

Please note that various factors will determine how quickly you burn fragrance.

  • Economic burning: Never leave the flame unattended – the flame should be blown out after 2-3 minutes. Longer – and the fuel is being wasted, in addition to the burner being damaged.
  • Always replace the stopper cap when not in use to prevent wasting fuel or evaporation if burner has not been lit.
  • Replace the burner/wick every 6-12 months, depending on usage. A worn out burner will burn more fragrance than a new one. Parts explained.

Maintenance

This is enough to clean the burner. You may continue using the Neutral or – pour the remaining fuel back into it’s original container. Continue with your favourite fragrance as usual.

These are just a few examples of questions that we have been asked repeatedly over the many years we have been supplying Lampe Berger to all over the UK, Ireland and parts of Europe and the USA.

Parfum Berger

Q: Can I use Lampe Berger fragrance in my Parfum Berger diffuser?

Answer:

No. The two brands - Lampe Berger & Parfum Berger are very different products. They have a common parent comany Products Berger - they utilise experience in developing fragrances and also the newer Parfum Berger brand produces fragrances of the same name/scent - but NOT composition.

Lampe Berger fragrance cannot be used in a Parfum Berger diffuser as it is developed for burning. Using it in a Parfum Berger Diffuser which is not lit, of course, would result in the fragrance evaporating far too quickly for it to be effective. More importantly there is the real danger of using this flammable material incorrectly.
